What is Hacktober fest?

It is a code event hosted by the digital ocean. Hacktoberfest encourages participants in giving back to the open-source community by completing pull requests and participating in events.


Who can contribute?

Anyone around the globe who desires to help drive the growth of open source and make positive contributions to an ever-growing community. 


Skills Required:

1) Git and GitHub

2) Any Programming language


Rules:

1)You can sign up anytime between 1st October to 31st October on the official Hactober fest website.

2)Pull requests can be made in any participating GitHub or Gitlab hosted repository/project. To know whether the repository/project is participating, Look for the 'Hactoberfest' topic.

3) If the maintainer reports your Pull request as spam, your contribution will not be counted in Hacktober fest.

4)If a Pull request is merged by the maintainer or has been given the 'hactoberfest-accepted' label, then it is considered as approved.





How to Complete Hacktober fest?

1)Visit: 

https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com/

2)Click on start hacking.

3) Signup using your GitHub account. (If you don't have a GitHub account, create one)

3)Click Authorize hactober fest.

4) Add email address, Location, select participant, and click next.

5) Click start hacking.

6) After that move to GitHub, select a repository in which you are going to contribute, fork that repository.

7) Once you fork it, add new features or make good changes in that repository. Then commit those changes and create a pull request.

8) If the maintainer finds these pull requests appropriate he/she will merge them. 

9) This way you have to create 4 pull requests to be eligible for winning swags.

10) That's it, wait for few days and you will receive a mail from the digital ocean if you completed the Hacktoberfest successfully.
