How to Check PF Balance

What is PF (Provident fund):
When salaried workers retire, their provident fund (PF) is utilized to pay them a lump sum or on a monthly basis. Employees contribute a defined amount of money from their salary till retirement.
There are different kinds of provident funds; some are only available to public sector workers, while others are intended for private sector workers. But in India, the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has regulatory power over provident funds, which are governed by the government.

What is EPF:
All companies or businesses with more than 20 workers are required to pay into the PF and provide retirement benefits to their staff. The majority of Indian workers are employed by private companies; hence they favor EPF accounts. It provides higher interest rates, ranging from 8% to 9%. The greatest benefit of EPF is that the employer matches the amount that the employee contributes. EPF only matures upon retirement, and as long as the worker has worked for the company for more than five years, the sum received is tax-free.

How to Check EPF balance:

1) Visit Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (epfindia.gov.in)

2) Click on Service dropdown menu and select "For Employees" option

3) Click on Member Passbook option

4) Enter UAN and password and click on submit. You'll be able to see EPF balance.
Note: You' find UAN in your salary slip and password is same as you use to login EPFO portal)
